Anime Review - Jigoku Shoujo

Another review in one day? When will I stop? =P

Anyway, this one focuses more on a Japanese Animation called Jigoku Shoujo or known as Hell Girl or Girl from Hell. The client will access a site known as "Jigoku Tsushin" (Hell's Correspondence) at the stroke of midnight. If the client if filled with hatred and vengeance, "Jigoku Shoujo" will appear before them and will pass them a straw doll with a string around it's neck. "When one curse is made, two graves are dug". Meaning although the person they despise will be sent to Hell, the client will also go to Hell. Well, that is after the client's death. I will give a brief review for each season.

Season 1
In this season, we are introduced with 4 people and 2 recurring characters. There is Enma Ai and her 3 assistants, Hone Onna, Wanyuudo and Icchimoku Ren. It is a show that reveals how people will do whatever it takes to fulfill their vengeance or revenge upon a person they loathed/hated the most. This shows the dark side of humanity. Desperation. Hatred. Vengeance. Despair. These people will take a drastic action in order to fulfill their desire to eliminate the person they hated.

The 2 recurring character is Sugumi and Hajime Shibata. These 2 people gives a new feeling in the anime as they tried to stop the client from sending the person they hated to Hell. Interesting to know that at least there is humanity somehow.

This season focuses on Enma Ai's past. It was tragic and it is no wonder that she has a huge hatred to her village, to the extend of burning her village after her death.

Season 2
Although similar with Season 1, this season introduces Kikuri, who is a little girl who somehow is very childish and mischievous in my honest opinion.

Apart from that, the main difference is that the recurring character in this season is Takuma Kurebayashi, a boy who is misunderstood, just like Ai was in her past. This one mainly focuses on the past of the 3 assistants of Enma Ai, as stated above.

Overall, this anime is interesting as it shows how desperate people can be in getting their revenge. Holding a grudge is more or less a ticket to desperation.

I liked this anime as it focuses on desperation, despair and vengence. This also gives a new perspective of people who will do whatever it takes in order to fulfill their desire for vengence in a not-so-positive method. And there is a variety of scenario in Season 2 instead of the usual "See Hell Girl-Take straw doll-In dire situation-Untie string on the doll's neck-Torture the person to be sent to Hell-On the way to Hell by boat-Client's life after person they hated disappears" scenario found in Season 1. But, I sort of wonder on why they left certain people to be betrayed and found out about something tragic after pullling the doll's string. I just wonder, that's all.

Note: Season 3 will be released soon. Hopefully Season 3 will give a fresh idea and a new anime viewing experience. I shall wait patiently for the next season! =)
